Results: River Glen Horse Trials - August 2010
This was our first time back to River Glen in Tennessee in quite a few years. We were very impressed with how well run and nice it was. We had a lot of fun and it turned out to be a very successful weekend.
Ben Tursam and Mad Hatter brought home another blue ribbon in their training division. Adding nothing onto their dressage score all weekend.
Ben and Pilgrim du Barquet came in 8th in the training division.
Nicole Thomas and Top of the World took home 3rd place in their novice division putting in a great performance in all three phases. Next we’re are excited to be off to the AEC’s at Chattahoochee Hills in Fairburn, GA. We’ll be bringing six horses from Summit Hill so I know no matter what the outcome we’ll have a fun time!

Results: Starter Horse Trials @ Carolina Horse Park - July 2010
The Carolina Horse Park is putting on these awesome starter horse trials that are great for green horses and riders just starting out in the eventing. It was so well run and turned out to be a lot of fun. It was Grover’s first event. He and Ben came in 4th place in the beginner novice division. Again, we were very proud of his performance but more so happy with his wonderful, laid back attitude that he had for his first event.
Tina Steed and Cool Breeze and Beth Wiener and Scout both did a fantastic job at their first events at the levels. Kelly Williamson and Haven again turned out a great performance scoring in the high 60’s and low 70’s in her two training level dressage tests. We look forward to going to more of these starter horse trials in the future!

Results: Fenridge Farm Dressage Show - June 2010
Fenridge Farm in Mebane always puts on great schooling shows! We had a great time on a very warm day in June. It was Grover’s first outing and he was such a good boy! Still green, but so willing and easy to be around at the show. He came in first in his beginner novice dressage test and was a start schooling cross country. We’re excited about him starting his evening career this fall. Kelly Williamson and Haven gave an outstanding performance taking home 2nd and 3rd in her two training level dressage tests.

Beth Wiener and Scout also put in a great performance coming in 2nd in their beginner novice dressage test. They also did great in the cross country school we look forward to them joining us at events soon!

Our first summer camp here at Summit Hill was a great success. All the kids had a lot of fun and- I think- learned a lot. I look forward to doing more camps next summer! Check out the pictures on the Picture page.

Update: Summit Hill Farm Jumper Show
We had a wonderful (warm) day for our June jumper show. Again we had a spectacular turnout with a bunch of fantastic competitors. We look forward to put these on every summer. We’re always thrilled to see familiar faces and excited to get to meet some new ones. We want to thank everyone who came out to compete and support our shows. We were lucky enough to have Mark Calvo of Laughing Horse Photography come out to document the show and take come awesome pictures of the great riders. Please visit his website at http://www.laughinghorsephoto.com to check out some of his great work.

Of course special thanks goes to our two wonderful sponsors: M&M Tack Shop and Hendrick Cary Auto Mall. They always provide awesome prizes and we are grateful for them supporting our shows for the past four years! A huge thank you always goes out to our wonderful group at Summit Hill for volunteering to help get ready for the show and help the day of the show. From painting jumps to being a secretary at the show, a lot goes into these horse shows and we couldn’t do it without their help. Thank you Morgan, Kelly and Nicole! Check out pictures of our jump painting fun and of the show on our Pictures page.

We look forward to our next show on Saturday August 21st. Come join in the fun!

Lumber River Horse Trials - June 2010

Ben Tursam and Chance ended up in 8th place in their novice division.

Results: Virginia Horse Trials -   May 2010
Despite the sporadic down pours at the Virginia Horse Center on May 22nd and 23rd, Summit Hill Farm had a very fun and successful weekend!

Ben Tursam and Pilgrim du Barquet started out the weekend with a bang with a dressage score of 21.1! The pair took home 1st place only adding a few seconds in stadium to finish up with a score of 23.1. Their personal best!
Ben Tursam and Mad Hatter also ended up winning their training division adding no penalties onto their dressage score of 35. Having to do cross country in the mud didn’t phase Cid even though it was only his second training. We were very pleased with his accomplishment!
Ben Tursam and Chance ended up in 7th place- just one rail out of first finishing on a score of 33! We were very pleased with all three phases especially his dressage score of a 29!
Nicole Thomas and Top of the World were tied for first in their novice division after a beautiful stadium round on a score of 29.5. Injun was just a couple seconds faster on cross country and was not closest to optimum time which put her into 2nd to finish up the weekend. We were very happy with their performance all weekend!
Morgan Bost and Sir Edward were pleased to have another successful event under their belt. Despite having to ride in the rain all three phases, the pair finished up in 8th place in only their second horse trial ever! Adding no penalties onto their dressage score, the pair finished up on a score of 37.6. Go Morgan and Eddie!

Next we are off to Lumber River Horse Trials at the Carolina Horse Park on June 5th and 6th. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the North Carolina 90-degree temperatures and afternoon thunderstorms hold off for this weekend!

Results: The Fork Horse Trials -   April 2010
First off, I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter holiday! After watching the excitement at the The Fork CIC*** the weekend before, everyone was ready to get a chance to ride the beautiful courses at the Fork Stables the following weekend. It was a lovely day and everyone had a lot of fun.

Morgan Bost and Sir Edward finished up in 5th place in their beginner novice division. It was their first ever horse trial! They had a great time and we were very proud of their performance.
Nicole Thomas and Top of the World ended up in 4th place in their Novice division to finish on a score of 31. Great weekend for that pair!

Next we’re off to Virginia at the end of May.

UPDATE: SHF XC Jump @ Southern Pines HT II -   March 2010
It was a beautiful weekend for the Southern Pines Horse Trial II at the Carolina Horse Park on March 19th-21st . The event organizers picked out a great jump for Summit Hill Farm. The skinny, brush jump on the top of a mound jumped wonderfully for the Advanced riders. We also had a jump on the Intermediate, Prelim and Training courses as well. Again, we were happy to be able to support the horse trial in this way and we look forward to next year!

Southern Pines Horse Trial I -   March 2010
Southern Pines Horse Trial didn’t pan out exactly as expected for Team Summit Hill. Unfortunately, the week before, Ben sprained his ankle and was not able to ride the three that he was supposed to compete. He’s all healed up now and ready for the Fork. Nicole Thomas and Top of the World pulled out a 27 in dressage despite being very sick all weekend. They were in first place, only to have to scratch before cross country. Bummer. But better to be safe than sorry! On the up side, Liza Bunce and Babazulu came in 11th in their BN division of 32 competitors; both adults and juniors. We were very happy with their performance. They had a great weekend.

Next we’re off to the Fork Horse Trials. Which we hope will be a better weekend!

Summit Hill Farm XC Jump @ Southern Pines Horse Trial II -   March 2010
Summit Hill Farm will be sponsoring a cross-country jump at the Southern Pines Horse Trial II at the Carolina Horse Park. We consider the course at the Park our “home course” since it’s nearest to us and we compete there most often. We are excited about the opportunity to support the Park and Southern Pines Horse Trial in this way. Come watch some of the best event riders in the country ride in this exciting, world-class competition on March 19th through 21st at the Carolina Horse Park in Raeford. (And come take a peak at our jump!) It’s definitely worth the drive! Dressage will be performed on Friday, cross country on Saturday and stadium jumping on Sunday. For more information and directions visit www.CarolinaHorsePark.com.

Summit Hill will be competing at Southern Pines Horse Trials I the weekend before on March 12th through 14th.

~Ben and Erin~
